INDIE SPIRIT SNUBS SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE

Yada City has spokenSpirit Award nominees announced

The tiny films that need Hollywood love and major swag just got a needed push in the 2009 Spirit Award nominations! Clearly, this award is one of the brightest parties in the “award season.”

The indie flicks “Rachel Getting Married,” “Ballast” and “Frozen River” led the field with six nominations each including best feature and director (Jonathan Demme, Lance Hammer and Courtney Hunt, respectively.)

Dawn Hudson, a brilliant mind and friend of filmmakers went back to her roots, she went “old school yall.”

As reported in Daily Variety, Ms. Hudson is quoted thusly: “There was a writers strike, a tough economy, and the specialty distributors have faded or shrunk. In a way, it was a great year for new filmmakers.”

Gus Van Sant’s “Milk” failed to earn noms for director or picture but don’t cry over “spilled milk,” he will get the big boy nom – The Academy Award – and BAFTA!

Also left out was Fox Searchlight’s hit “Slumdog Millionaire.” The U.K. production was ineligible for best film since its financing came from outside the States, but its absence from the foreign pic list had some scratching their heads. I AM DONE. IF YOU PEOPLE WILL NOT GO TO SEE THIS FILM, YOU SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO GET A GOOD CURRY!

Goggle the rest of the nominations and then take a nice, long bath and watch the last two episodes of BOSTON LEGAL on line. It is good, I know ……it really is!!!!
