GOD BLESS THE DEAD

Sad news on the passing of E. Lynn Harris, a major trailblazer in black gay fiction. He removed obstacles, bigger than mountains, and paved the way for scores of aspiring African American writers.

On tour, in Los Angeles to promote his new novel ‘Basketball Jones,’ he was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He died from “unknown causes,” as reported from the Associated Press. He was 54.

Mr. Harris’ life is an example of absolute courage. He started as a computer salesman for IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and AT&T.

Then he stepped up to his dreams, quit the 9 to 5 grind so he could write his first self-published novel, 'Invisible Life.' Going door to door to black-owned bookstores, beauty salons and book clubs the buzz grew.

In 1994, Anchor Books signed him. To date, he has 11 novels and a memoir ('What Becomes of the Brokenhearted’) to his credit.

That is major yadacity and we have ABSOLUTE respect.

TAREGNA, India (July 21) – The longest solar eclipse, of the 21st century, created near darkness soon after dawn.

Hindu mythology says an eclipse is caused when a dragon-demon swallows the sun.


The moon covered the sun completely and created a shadow, on the third rock from the sun, earth — at 6.24 a.m. (0054 GMT).

It was an event in India, which had many live, broadcasts, reporting from the town of Varanasi, on the banks of the Ganges River, sacred to devout Hindus.

Thousands of Hindus took a dip in keeping with the ancient belief that bathing in the river at Varanasi, especially on special occasions, cleanses one's sins. The eclipse was seen for 3 minutes and 48 seconds.

The eclipse — visible only in Asia — will move north and east from India to Nepal, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Bhutan and China.

I’m sure Jon Stewart, and his staff of writers-producers, can get smarter and funnier. It’s hard to imagine HOW since the hit show, on Comedy Central, remains excellent and has the audacity of not disappointing their growing audience base.
