Tyler Perry, who owns Tyler Perry Studios (you go boy!) has finally came to a SMART agreement with
the Writers Guild of America! It took like five months on the table (your lawyer thanks you for sending his grand-grand children and a couple of dogs to college) to come to an agreement. Big shout-out to Vic Bulluck, executive director of the NAACP Hollywood Bureau who helped make this happen.”
The incredible Perry had this to say:
"We are pleased to have come to a resolution with the WGA, and thank the NAACP for their support during negotiations. We look forward to many years working with the talented writers who are members of the Guild."
Tyler continued: "With a continued focus on fostering young, diverse talent, we are eager to continue our dialogue with the WGA to dramatically increase the number of minority writers working in Hollywood today."
The contract with the WGA was the last union agreement outstanding for Tyler Perry Studios, which had previously brokered deals with the Teamsters, IATSE, SAG, DGA, and others. Acknowledging that some of the writers on the TBS series House of Payne and Meet the Browns will not be returning, Perry thanked them for their services and wished them well in their future endeavors.
Check this, Tyler Perry Studios is 100% financed by Tyler Perry in an entrepreneurial endeavor, and is not backed by a studio or other investors. Yes, the man owns it all!
The studio produces both Meet the Browns and House of Payne, as well as several feature films a year including the upcoming Madea Goes to Jail. Perry recently announced the formation of another production arm, 34th Street Films, which will develop projects written and directed by talent other than Perry under the Tyler Perry brand.
I tell you, it’s enough to make you want to put on a dress, a gray wig and go make millions.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Paul Schrader is taking a taxi to Bollywood.
Why: he feels the U.S. film market has become "barren.” The writer of classics "Taxi Driver" and "Raging Bull" is packing his bags for Mumbai to write and direct the Bollywood action movie "Extreme City."
"I've been getting indie movies made for 20 years," he said. "But I take a good look around and what I see is a barren, barren place -- in terms of the financial community, in terms of audiences, in terms of distribution. It's cold out there."
In India, on the other hand, he says there are ways to gain both creative freedom and audiences.
"City" is a cross-cultural tale that will center on an American man who travels to India to help resolve a kidnapping case for his father-in-law, only to get caught up in a gangster plot.

The sexy superstar, Hallyu star Song Hye-kyo unveiled her new movie "Make Yourself at Home", at the 13th Pusan (Busan) International Film Festival over the weekend.
Song, one of the best known Korean actresses in Asia. This is her first independent film, dircted by first-time Korean-American director Sohn Soo-pum. Go Sohn Soo-pum!
A joint U.S.-Korea production, "Make Yourself at Home" is described as a psychological thriller about a woman shaman Sook-hee, who chooses to live an ordinary life in the United States. She marries a Korean-American named Peter, played by Arno Frisch.
Song's character in the film is something of a femme fatale, a departure from her roles in dramas like "Full House" and "All In."
Song's dialogue in the film is about 80 percent in English.
Song wants a bite out of Hollywod, following in the $ steps of other Korean stars like Kim Yoon-jin and Rain.

Switzerland is asking the world's most prolific film industry to play a role in the revival of its 23 billion franc, or $18.5 billion, tourism trade by shooting movies in identifiably Swiss locations to lure Indian visitors.
Why: the expanding Indian middle class has cash and they want to travel!
Cyril Jost, head of Film Location Switzerland states: "We want producers to do more than just shoot three song scenes in Switzerland. If producers shoot trains, alpine villages and towns in Switzerland, that will encourage Indian tourists to come to the country."
To attract Indian producers, Switzerland's film promotion agency is offering Indian filmmakers free scouting trips to remote mountaintops and lesser-known locations.

Bollypop Competition Highlights Company's South Asian Video Content on FiOS TV and Verizon Wireless V CAST
Two young dancers from Los Angeles have won Verizon's Bollypop contest, an online dance competition sponsored by the company to help showcase the growing number of Bollywood movies and music videos it offers via its FiOS TV and V CAST services.
The winners -- Sapna Rohra, 25, and Shivani Thakkar, 23 -- will get their big break on the silver screen: The women will appear in a dance sequence in a Bollywood movie to be produced by an award-winning studio and director in Mumbai, India .
The winners' dance routine can be found at www.bollypoptv.com . The contest was maintained and developed by Saavn.com, the largest digital distributor of South Asian movies, music videos, audio tracks and ringtones.
Response to the Bollypop contest was overwhelming. Nearly 10,000 people registered to vote for their favorite video, and the videos were viewed more than 300,000 times.

ALAN the United States of America is in a depression. Just because the “official memo” or statement has not been stated, it is obvious.
You cannot “push” for a strike. It will be like putting the final “nail” in many, many members coffin as well as other people that make a living in the industry.
I do agree that you must not let “residuals” on traditional media go but stop “worrying about new media” at this point in the history of “new meda.” Do a proviso clause for the next round of contracts talks on the new media issue.
Plus, who cares if non-union actors do web work. That is how they build their resume which is how they become members of SAG eventually. Your vision is too small. You are fighting for money on new media residuals on what projects? People are losing their houses – do you think they care about watching television or can afford to go to a movie? People are losing their houses; do you think they want or can buy a DVD?
Entertainment is not necessary for basic survival. It is a want, not a need. Here, Alan are needs. You must eat, drink, be clothed and have a roof over your head. Health care is a must as well but that is another conversation.
Stop it Alan. You need a major time out or just walk away.
The American working force is not pleased with your bad behavior.

PALIN to do a coloring book?
According to several high-powered wire sources they are reporting that Governor Sarah Palin has offers from Hollywood including book offers.
A book? Is it a coloring book or paint by numbers? A television show was mentioned as well. Is that for family TV with an audience aimed at 3 to 5 year olds? Or, will she write a book on “How To Make Millions And Be As Dumb As Dirt: The Alaskan Tale.”
Sarah, the people of the U.S. are done with you. Please, do not make us call the genius Tina Fey again; she is our weapon of choice!

Mr. Rosenberg, I respect actors. I admire them, marvel at their ability to “hang in there,” despite obstacles. I marvel at their ability to focus and to deliver – take after take – and their passion to live in the moment.
That being said and the honest-to-GOD truth, I am very broken at SAG’s inability to understand the hurt a strike can cause US ALL.
You and your team, that walked away from the negotiation process, are having a PALIN moment. Can you see Russia From Your House?
Your inability to find a quick solution makes me wonder—do you get the local news, national news, international news or have access to any periodicals? Are you www connected?
The U.S. ecomony is on life support and your team wants to put on a “dance and pony show,” so you don’t throw “members under the bus.” Your words on camera, no mine.
Mr. Rosenberg, wake up. America is not only under the bus we (the collective we) are being rolled over, again and again. Can’t you hear us screaming in pain? People losing their houses! People losing their savings!
SAG board, stop acting like children. Try being adults and look at the small and big picture. If you need too, step on some phone books so your vista will get wider.

ABC has "Palin Moment" over Daisies!
ABC BRASS HAVE A “PALIN MOMENT”
According to the Hollywood Reporter ABC will not give full-season orders to "Pushing Daisies," "Dirty Sexy Money" and "Eli Stone." The brass has not officially stated that the struggling shows are canceled.
ABC informed the shows' producers that no additional episodes would be ordered at this time. However, it left the door open for future orders, though that is considered unlikely. I say again "Palin Moment Sirs and Madam, A Palin Moment."
I want to say something snarky about not understanding the value of “Pushing Daisies.” I want to say SO WHEN QUALITY IS IN YOUR FACE you dumb down. I want to say something like "this moves makes the Big Car CEO’s, who went to capital hill on a private jet begging for billions -- the smartest guys in the room." I want to say, Big Boys and Big Gals at ABC you are having a “Palin Moment.” But I won’t!
Come on “think out of the ratings box.” That is not how people view television anymore. Your team is stuck (like the main character in LIFE ON MARS –a brilliant show) somewhere in ’73 and the rest of the world is already in 2009!

AIG not helping Fire Victims but going to party
AIG not writing checks to fire victims in California! Other insurance companies are writing checks on the spot for fire victims. AIG is spending money on parties, etc…
I feel for the “lower level” employees of AIG, I do. I do. However, the fat cats who believe you can cheat everyone all the time and that you can take your possessions with you pass the grave, these sad souls should be given a “time out.”
You cannot take anything with you; naked you came into the world and naked you will go out. Kindness takes strength and all your penthouses, fancy cars and other things you need/want to feel important will not help you when your soul is on trail for hurting others.
Those who stole lives are weak, not strong.

KEEPS IT REAL ABOUT PROP. 8 AND THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY
Los Angeles, CA - A social architect, activist and visionary, Cleo Manago has always dreamed a world. A world where every man and every woman could live and love without being judged or disdained. Never one to mince his words, he originally coined the term "same gender loving" to embrace, describe and culturally affirm the relationship of his Black "gay" brothers and sisters.
With the current hoopla around the passing of Proposition 8 in Los Angeles which bans gay marriages, the finger pointing at the Black community for overwhelmingly voting "yes" to pass it, and most recently, the proclamation of her own same sex marriage by comedian Wanda Sykes, Manago has a lot on his mind. And as usual, he's not biting his tongue about it.
Below is an open letter to the world at large. Read it. And then, Think about it.
GAYS IN LOS ANGELES INDICT BLACKS AND DELIVER FAKE ANTHRAX

By now, you may have seen or heard about the disturbing behaviors among the predominantly White gay protesters of Proposition 8, the ban on same-sex marriage in California. Protesters have sent a suspicious white powdery substance to local churches, apparently to provoke an anthrax type scare, and most notably have blamed Black folks for their defeat against stopping Prop. 8.
To express their anger, some have attacked Blacks with the word "niggas." I even heard one exclaim that, "We gave you [Black people] your first Black president. How dare you turn your back on us now!" Apparently their vote for Obama was an attempt at a disingenuous deal maker with Black people.
The facts of the matter are: Black women constituted only 6% of the states' voters. So few Black men voted (less than 4% of the state voting population), that exit polls didn't even bother to calculate their vote. While 75% of voting Black women supported Proposition 8, Blacks only accounted for 2.3% of the total Prop. 8 vote. White men and women, who account for 64% of California's voters, make up the majority of who produced the actual result.
An irrational affront on Blacks by the gay community is not unusual, but merely demonstrates symptoms of a larger historic issue of racism between the gay and Black communities. As a Black man who is committed to the education, health and affirmation of Black people, I have talked about being a Same Gender Loving (SGL) man, who has never identified with gay culture.
For example, over 20 years ago, I pointed out that Black HIV/AIDS prevention efforts should not be done in a way that blatantly prioritized gay identity over Black culture and diversity. Now close to thirty years later HIV/AIDS is still out of control in Black communities. That gay-identity politics was prioritized over the importance of Black cultural affirmation is a major co-factor.
Currently, Prop. 8 protesters are conducting rallies throughout Los Angeles, but they have not brought their demonstrations to historically Black communities. Why? Given that it's the only community of color that they directly blame for their loss.
The gay community has never addressed the Black community in ways that build bridges on this or any other issue. Despite the civil rights dialogue employed by the gay community, many gay organizations still practice blatant forms of racial exclusion. Even to date, when you see Blacks in the gay press, it is extremely rare to see two Blacks depicted together. Blacks are typically depicted as a White person's lover or alone. The term same-gender-loving (SGL) was distinctly created to provide homosexual and bisexual Black people with a descriptor that was more affirming and culturally reflective, and to break Black complacency with overt "gay" racism.
Yet, my concern is not the redundant problem of racist attitudes in the gay community. What I find troubling is the silence of the so-called Black gay leaders in Los Angeles. During this gay onslaught of hatred, where is the Black gay community? We cannot use the excuse that there are not any who are "out"!
Where is the Black AIDS Institute's Phill Wilson, a long time Black gay identity advocate, or the leaders of the gay group called 'In the Meantime'? Where is lesbian identified publicist and writer Jasmine Cannick? I believe this silence results from that White gays are often the philosophical parents of many Blacks who have defined themselves as gay leaders.
Consequently, I understand why people in the Black community question the relevance, safety and value of gay as a viable identity in the Black community. Not that I agree with any form of oppression, I merely understand the suspect. This is because the so-called "Black gay community" has yet, itself, to effectively address the Black community. It has rarely even been present in the Black community in progressive ways, only showing up when it's time to call someone Black homophobic.
Similarly, the Black HIV/AIDS movement has been traditionally more concerned with pushing gay identity than pushing the Black community toward prevention and wellness. The Black gay movement doesn't look like a "Black community affirming" movement, but instead like a group of co-opted Black folks running behind a White homosexual agenda. This exacerbates anti-homosexual attitudes and now anti-homosexual marriage perspectives in the Black community.
So, in solution, in the age of Obama, we need to be in real dialogue as a community about our cultural, philosophical, and sexuality diversity. As White gays protest against Blacks while disenfranchising the Black community in their political efforts for "gay marriage", they establish yet another reason Blacks and others have not jumped on their bandwagon. As can be attested to by the lack of Black support, including Black homosexual support against Prop. 8, education about such bills need to be presented in ways that affirm and engage Black people. The current mixture of Black "gay" silence and White homosexual racism will not garner Black support of same-sex anything, let alone marriage.

Hilary Duff, who was given life by Disney in "Lizzie McGuire," has left the mouse-house for the Peacock (NBC-Universal).
Now a fresh faced, 21-year-old with some real life experience, her reps inked a one-year development deal with the mighty Peacock net.
Variety states that NBC’s VP, Teri Weinbert calls Duff's "huge following" as one of the star’s true assets for success in television. Translation: it was a no-brainer.
A young mogul in the making, Duff’s career in music and film makes her a safe bet for the tween & teen market, at least for the next five years --- if they push it right.

THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION HAS INVITED "A SINGLE WOMAN" TO SCREEN ON JANUARY 17TH, 2009 IN WASHINGTON D.C.
The Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery is having a major exhibition called "Women of Our Time" which includes a portrait of Rep. Jeannette Rankin; the subject of the film "A Single Woman." They have asked to include the film and a conversation with the director in their public programming for the exhibition.
IN OTHER NEWS: The schedule for the Santa Fe Film Festival has been released. The festival will open with Steven Soderbergh's "Che" starring Benicio Del Toro and close with John Patrick Shanley's "Doubt" starring Meryl Streep and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
The festival screenings of "A Single Woman" are as follows:
Friday December 5th at 1:30pm at the DeVargas Cinema 2
Sunday December 7th at 6pm at the DeVargas Cinema 2

"If I have to call an audible down the road here and circumstances change, and the door is open for me to do so," Palin said, "I would take that challenge on, that responsibility, if I believed it was in the nation's best interest."
If Mrs. Palin runs, I suggest that all of America pack up (pets included because she hunts with a rifle) and go to Africa, Asia or Europe, again – she can not see it from her house!

New York Times review by Manohla Dargis
I hate to admit this but MANOHLA DARGIS is a genius -- the reviews of films (now for The New York Times) have never lead me wrong. GOD gave that extra dose of "talent," and "twirl" when the mold was cut.

Why Did The Chicken Cross The Road?
BARACK OBAMA: The chicken crossed the road because it was time for a change! The chicken wanted change!
JOHN MC CAIN: My friends, that chicken crossed the road because he recognized the need to engage in cooperation anddialogue with all the chickens on the other side of the road.
SARAH PALIN: BECAUSE, PRAISE JESUS, I WAS GONNA SHOOT HIS SORRY LIBERAL BEHIND OFF FOR BLOCKING MY VIEW OF RUSSIA !
HILLARY CLINTON: When I was First Lady, I personally helped that little chicken to cross the road. This experience makes me uniquely qualified to ensure right from Day One that every chicken in this country gets the chance it deserves to cross the road. But then, this really isn't about me.
GEORGE W. BUSH: We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road, or not. The chicken is either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground here.
DICK CHENEY: Where's my gun?
