OUT OF SILENCE

Los Angeles on March 8, 2010

At the Museum of Tolerance (MOT) another section of giving HOLLYWOOD sponsored OUT OF SILENCE: readings from the Afghan Women’s Writing Project.

Please note, it was to celebrate International Women’s Day, which in our humble yadacity opinion is really every day.

As a friend reminded me, one finger can break but five fingers form a fist. The fist to help get these women’s stories out was sponsored by AFTRA, PGA, SCREEN ACTORS GUILD, STEAKHOUSE PRODUCTIONS, WOMEN IN FILM (international committee), WGAW and of course THE MOT.

A yadacity shout out to the event producers Deborah Calla, Steak House, Juli Vizza with special recogition Ellen Huang, Ray Bradford and Ruby Lopez.

The evening was conceived and directed by Frederick Ponzlov and executive produced by Jeff Lyons and Jim Steers.

The brilliant souls reading the words of the brilliant souls were Summer Bishil, Nadia Bjorlin, Conchata Ferrell, Jodi Log, Nichelle Nichols, Teal Sherer, Bahar Soomekh, Marcia Wallace.

Ms. Jennifer Beals did not attend because of “very last minute” conflicts.” Taking her place was Nancy Travis, a member of the National Board Member of SAG and a member of AFTRA.

The readings were powerful, awkward, funny, and inspiring.

In the car, my pal asked me what I got from the evening. She wanted to know which story had the most impact.

I choose the story about the father who is still, the teacher.

It was extremely moving and the one about the father being the teacher was one of my favorites also.
